I can’t believe I missed out on another poster. Regardless, I’m happy to see another podcast up. Keep up the good work.

Dude, wha can I say, thank you. I fell in love with this podcast since you first put them up and all I can say is take all the time you need. I have never been so excited to listen to a podcast when to my pleasant suprise, it got updated in my Itunes.
Thanks for doing this man.

My hype was very high for this episode. Thebit with Hank was awesome! however the last segment with Falcon wasnt that interesting. it felt out of place. I am all for you doing more offbeat shows like this Robert, but I just dont see how the Falcon Segment fell into the “Big Ideas” category. The guy is a dreamer and a schemer with a huge weiner (I like how that rhymes), but his connection to big ideas in the video game world is quite flaccid.
I wish you the ebst of luck with your move, and thanks again for sucha great pod cast. I look forward to the next installment.

I am listening to it for the third time and still loving it
I cannot wait for the next one.
Thank you, you make the world a better and more interesting place

Please could someone please tell me who did the sweet ambient music after the Henk Rogers Tetris piece? I would do anything to have that song!!!
Great podcast, keep up the excellent work Robert.
Posted by P-mar July 1, 2010 at 6:34 AM
@P-mar: All the music is made for the show by myself and my bandmate Sam (I Come to Shanghai). ALWW is the only place to hear it. I’d like to release a collection of music from the show someday, though.

@ Robert Ashley: What program do you use to get some of the ambient sounds, especially that rising synth you use to play out the clip of the Pacmanhattan HQ.
Love the podcast, keep up the great work!
Posted by Ian July 1, 2010 at 1:29 PM
@Ian: That was the Elektron Monomachine: http://www.elektron.se/products/monomachine
The only software I use to make sounds is my sampling synth plug-in for Reaper. Otherwise, it’s all hardware and acoustic instruments.

Okay cool. Thanks for getting back to me on that.

Man. I hope I’m not the first one to say this, but I kind of felt bad for the Penis guy. I mean, how many people in the world really know him for anything else other than his penis?
In the most polite way possible, I feel a bit compelled to ask if you (Robert) inserted his interview as a humorous bit AND as an odd ego boost for the rest of us nerds with normal dicks?

any chance of getting a second run of the poster? I really like this one. I can only get online sporadically now and missed it

Thanks for your hard work. I enjoyed this episode like I have all others that came before it.

I really enjoyed this episode, everything came together really well, theme, music and interviews. If all the episodes are up to this standard they are worth the wait.

My fave show yet. And what’s more, you turned me onto clever, cryptic artist Olly Moss… Now more than ever, Robert Ashley, you’re makin’ it feel good to be a game player.

Loved it. I’m amazed at the stories you got this episode, Robert. I imagine at some points you couldn’t believe what you were hearing, either.

I heard you on Rebel FM the other day and decided to check your podcast out. Now I’m totally glad I did. Keep up the awesome work.

While I respect Henk Rogers ambition I have to say his last goal is laughable.
It’s impossible to stop the universe from ending. This is because the organization of energy always trends to becoming more disorganized.
This disorganization is known as entropy and it is always increasing as time is increasing. This is the Second Law of Thermodynamics it is a fundamental law of nature and until there is quantifiable evidence disproving this law it will hold. It’s possible maybe there is some event in this universe that is just waiting to be observed that would do such a thing but I’m highly sceptical of that.
So anyway as time continues to go on (time may be relative [a finding of special relativity {for an example look no further than the artificial satellites that have their clocks constantly corrected because they time is faster up there compared to here on Earth}] but it is always moving forward) the entropy of the universe will continue to increase until we reach the maximum entropy at which point where any energy gradient is impossible since all energy is evenly distributed thus making any information processing impossible, which is to bad for all forms of life.
There are other alternatives with the idea that the universe will continue to expand at an accelerating rate until the point where everything becomes so spread out that the entire universe approaches absolute zero [being the coldest temperature possible although it's impossible to reach exactly absolute zero] being the one with the most evidence that suggest this end result.
The other being an idea that dark energy [which constitutes over 70% of the mass-energy of the universe] which is a hypothetical form of energy that permeates all space [which for the most part is empty even the screen you are looking at] and is responsible for the expansion of the universe. The idea is that as dark energy increases the density of dark energy increases causing the rate of acceleration to increase to the point where all matter is violently torn apart from each other as it rips apart in first the macro scale in terms of galaxies to star systems to planets and ending with atoms being torn apart and than the protons and neutrons that make them up being torn apart into elementary particles that move apart from each other.
That said it’s possible none of these theories are right and maybe the universe will end in some other fashion.

The Tetris remix that played briefly during the Tetris story has been stuck in my head all day . . . I’ve looked through Overclocked Remix but nothing compares. I don’t suppose there’s an mp3 somewhere?
Congrats on another stellar episode, by the way!
Posted by metaleaf July 13, 2010 at 7:09 AM
@Metaleaf: I made that bit for the show, and there really isn’t any more to it than what you hear in the story. It just loops.

Best podcast on the planet. Really. Yes, really.

Is there a pre-existing law or rule that states, “If you post it, they will hate!”

Fantastic show, although penis guy didn’t measure up to the other segments. Glad you’re still rolling with this Robert, was beginning to fear the Podcast was dead in it’s absence. Keep up the good work man!

I linked you up on my tiny personal blog at http://www.alexanderkirkegaard.com/worthwhile-gamerelated-critique/
Your examinations are all worthwhile and I love how you present it all with your low-key voice. Would love to hire you for a tiny job or two if you are available.
Furthermore the artpiece on this one is pretty cool. I already vectorized and cropped it, funked with the colours, could easily be turned into a cover for a didactics report or just as a wallpaper.
Cheers

This is my favorite Podcast by far.

Really nice podcast. I checked just the “Big Ideas”, but gonna listen to the other ones too. I especially liked the way music was synced with talking themes. The interviews were also interesting and reminded me the “Game Face” magazine which I had an opportunity to read a couple years ago.
