Great episode Robert! I Enjoyed this one much more than the last, and I have to say the interview with Steve Ritchie was amazing!! Keep up the high quality work Robert! And Get episode 2 posters out ASAP! I want that one above all else.

@Dave: The printing process has just begun for these, and they’re being done by hand in Austin, so it’s going to be a couple of weeks before I start shipping them out.

This podcast or “internet radio show” is amazing! You can tell how much work went into every single episode and I haven’t encountered any other shows of such quality. Bummer that the 5th episode’s poster is sold out already, would have bought one otherwise.

Very well made show, Dr. Maxchill. Don’t think you need to be making more of them than your material permits. All of the episodes have been really great insights into interesting people or stories and I just wanted to support your instinct at keeping the quality bar raised if at the expense of frequency. I think you’ll find more success in the long-form (and hopefully get the OOTG crew together to speak on the more day-to-day). Great show. Best wishes.

This has made my fall. Seriously, when was the last show, August? This is by far and large my favorite podcast on the web. But I am not sure you can call this a podcast, this is more or like those holiday specials that come once a year. You just can’t miss them, and you always wish they would last just another 5 minutes.
And I was going to ask about the posters as well since I ordered an episode 1 poster and still have not gotten it. Are all these going to be made at the same time and then shipped at the same time as well? I am thinking of ordering another but I have not even gotten my first…

WickedCobra03: You should have received your Ep 1 poster by now. Sent those out forever ago. E-mail me.

Seriously, that poster is awesome. Hopefully more prints get made…

Excellent episode. I’m a big time pinhead and it was nice to hear Steve Ritchie on the show. The man is a legend and it’s downright heartbreaking to hear about the future he is facing. I own The Getaway, and I’ll always be thankful for the work he did in the pinball industry.
Also, the show has rapidly become my favorite gaming podcast. Excellent work, Robert.

The Desert Bus for Hope story was great. Funny how much it sounds like an actual road trip with friends. Good show!

The end of Ritchie’s story is something else! It just tied the whole episode together. Thanks Robert.

The reprint color isn’t the greatest but it’s still a knockout. Purchased. Supported. Glad I could send some money your way.

this looks like an olly moss rip off
Posted by delup December 2, 2009 at 2:46 PM
@delup: Is that a joke? It is an Olly Moss poster.
Posted by Robert Ashley December 2, 2009 at 7:50 PM
Robert, I know you don’t need to hear it, but I wanted to express my appreciation of your work. I am blown away with each new episode you produce. I listen to a lot of Podcasts, and I’m honest when I saw ALWW is easily the best-produced I’ve heard.
I don’t know if they accept stuff like this, but have you considered confronting NPR to see if they would have any interest in re-airing the show?
Anyhow, keep up the great work and continued success.

The poster for this weeks show is insane, I love it.
Posted by Jeff December 3, 2009 at 1:50 PM
Dude what’s the secret on the poster?
Posted by gert December 4, 2009 at 8:55 AM
@Gert
Only those in the Pro Zone can answer that my friend.

Brilliant show, Robert! And this episode’s poster is outstanding. I’m disappointed to have missed TWO prints of the poster, and it doesn’t sound like you and Olly will make any more, make but if you do I’ll buy one.

Robert,
How about stories from a competitive Scrabble tourney and player profiles or other tabletop player vs player games? There may be characters there. Mainstream board games that have developed a competitive community are interesting.
Also, I’d also love to hear about tabletop conventions. Maybe you can find an indie tt game designer who got their game made and talk about that experience, or talk with a designer who never could get their game made. The people who organize the conventions could have a lot of contacts and also their own horror stories of putting on the conventions. They’d have their own history with games too.

Great show!
Love it from the start. I’m listening en re-listening these episodes like a cowbell. God I love them.
For what it’s worth, you’ve got at least one big fan from The Netherlands!

I am blown away on how much I like this podcast. At first I wasn’t going to download it since I am already listening to the full gauntlet of current and former 1UP employees. This has easily become one of my favorite Podcast to listen to out here in Iraq. By the way I am going back to Ft Hood in Jan and was wondering If Olly Moss sells any of his art in Austin? Sadly i couldn’t order the latest poster since I can’t ship it to Baghdad, but im hoping I am able to get anything done by him. Either way keep up the good work Robert.
Posted by Luis Angel Rodriguez December 12, 2009 at 3:24 PM
Hey Robert. Enjoyed the episode very much. You mentioned you’re looking for ideas. I think you should do a “beginnings” episode. I’m always fascinated to hear how things I enjoy got started. You could talk about EGM’s beginnings (both of them, even the recent/current one), or a game companies beginnings. I’d even like to hear just random stories from individuals about how they got introduced to the world of video games. I’d be glad to share my own. Anyway, just a suggestion. Keep up the good work.
Posted by Enderjsv December 16, 2009 at 12:24 PM
@Enderjsv: Glad you’re enjoying the show. I should clear up something, though, as I’ve been getting tons of e-mails about this: I’m not actually looking for show ideas. I’ve got plenty of those. What I’m looking for are specific interview contacts, especially for people who are not in the games business. I’m more looking for interviews with “regular” people who might have cool stories for the show. Or for non-famous gaming industry people who have interesting stories.

Love the show! Is there any chance for a reprint of the episode 5 poster?:)

Hey Robert,
Your site is not responding to my…………sequence of commands if you know what I mean. I know all about it and I want to know how you’ve used it with your site. Unless I’m not noticing anything that is. I’m doing it the right way, what gives?
Posted by Wilson Rosario December 17, 2009 at 8:19 AM
@Wilson: Either you’re one of those spam bots that sends an innocuous (but strange) comment in order to get approved before sending spam links, or you are trying to figure out the Episode 5 poster puzzle. If it’s the latter, I can tell you that there is no interactive button combination thing you need to do with the site.
Posted by Robert Ashley December 17, 2009 at 9:50 AM
@Johan: We won’t be doing another Episode 5 reprint. I promise that Olly will be designing more awesome posters that will make you forget about this one.
Posted by Robert Ashley December 17, 2009 at 9:51 AM
Whoa, that was one small step for me, one giant leap for spam! Thanks for the reply, and no, I am not a bot. Thanks for asking though, never been compared to internet trash before. I didn’t want to blatantly give any clues about the puzzle. Your show rocks keep up the good work.
Posted by Wilson Rosario December 17, 2009 at 11:18 AM
@Wilson: Ah, good to know. These spammers are getting clever.
Posted by Robert Ashley December 17, 2009 at 11:41 AM
Is there any possibility of getting a CD of the songs that play in the episodes? I love the music and I really want to buy it….
Posted by Adam December 20, 2009 at 7:23 PM
@Adam: I’m thinking about doing something with the music. It’ll be a while though.
Posted by Robert Ashley December 22, 2009 at 7:53 AM
Nice work on the poster, I’ve picked some of the references but I dont get “the classics”, the shooing target or 03:7. I dont get whats so signifiant about 3 1/2 hearts either although it’s obviously from zelda

Did you actually have Penn Jillette interviewed? Or was this clipped from elsewhere?
Posted by Pierce December 28, 2009 at 5:18 PM
Robert,
From the days of the Brodeo to ALWW, I think your work has become what I enjoy the most in the world of podcast. It’s not just entertaining, it’s bloody gorgeously put together. I do some editing on my own, and I respect your work like crazy.
Posted by Kim Vidard December 29, 2009 at 3:41 AM
@Pierce: No, I didn’t interview Penn. I took that audio from a YouTube post that he made.
