My high school nerd-mate, comic book artist Nick Derington, sent this to me today. He was my co-pilot on a great many digital adventures, and this really brings back the memories. Is that sad?

No, but it’s sad that you felt ashamed enough to ask.
Posted by Jim September 16, 2009 at 2:22 PM
that does remind me of my childhood.

As much as I love the posters, I’d love this as a t-shirt a lot more. You can do it Robert. We believe in.

Put that kid in a basement and that would be my childhood as well. Actually, I did have a chair.

It’s only sad because the cartoon’s perspective makes you think that the “reality” is the dude sitting on the floor.
But we all now how different that scene would be IF YOU COULD SEE THE SCREEN.

I’d love it as both a shirt and a poster. It’s fantastic!
Why should it be sad?
Posted by DerBonk September 17, 2009 at 12:28 PM
Yes please, make it a t-shirt!
Posted by IkariDC September 17, 2009 at 12:32 PM
Not sad at all. I’ve tried a few times to be less “nerdy”, and here I am taking a break from coding at 3 am… I’ve figured out that I’m more comfortable this way
Also, I’d like the PC version of that illustration ;p

I agree! Awesome print for a T.

Put this on a poster and I’ll send you money for it.
Providing UK shipping is available that is.

Do a print. DO A PRINT.

I would buy this as a t-shirt as well… a high quality one. I also want to buy the Gotta Catch Em All poster – hmmm… coming soon?!?
You sir, must reconsider the definition of soon.
Love the show.
And the album.

+1 for that design on a t shirt, with shipping to the UK.

Its not sad, it looks like my childhood as well.

I love it. It looks almost hauntingly sad with a good dose of solidarity added in for effect.
I also think that shadow in the middle of the blast of brightness from the CRT just adds a lot to the art.
T-shirt that.

I am in love with that second controller. It’s sitting on the left. Is the guy in the picture in the 2nd player spot and waiting for his friend? Perhaps his friend was playing with him and left for the night. Did he start the game in two player mode only to use the 2nd controller when player one ran out of lives?
I don’t see sadness here Cobra, but happiness. He looks so content, sitting by the glow of the cathode ray tube.
That all being said, I have to admit that those were secondary and tertiary thoughts. My first thought was “Oooh, this will make a cool desktop background!”

Definitely would buy a shirt of this.
This is one of the few silhouette-style drawings I’ve seen that really captures what it felt like to game: up late at night, on the floor, in front of the tube.
Most times we see symbols of the tri-force, a controller, a joystick or a mushroom to depict the gaming culture. Defining the player visually is what grabs me here. Very cool.

Ah, such fond memories of the cold blue glow…
Posted by DignifiedGamer October 8, 2009 at 11:57 PM
really dig that. would definitely put that on my wall. The shadows are really rad looking and the heavy electric glow from the television really pulls your eyes to the center. I love the gritty border and how it can be interpreted as putting the world around you on hold. I can remember countless friday and saturday nights as a kid sneaking down to the living room to put some play time in on teenage mutant ninja turtles or super mario brothers 3.

So many nights I wandered weak and weary my muscles sore and eyes bleary, to learn and reach for something more.
This time taught me more than I learned in school, I refuse to regret it.

I like the kid sitting on the floor. I always sat on the floor in front of the TV because the couch was just too far away. I thought it improved my response time & helped with the immersion.
