Further reading for Episode 4: You can find Luis Von Ahn’s purposeful games here or download Jason Rohrer’s meaningful games here. And make sure you read Jason Fagone’s amazing Esquire Magazine profile on Jason Rohrer.
UPDATE July 7, 2009: Episode 4 is close, but not quite ready to go, thanks to the release of I Come to Shanghai, Robert’s longtime musical collaboration with Sam Frigard. Look for a new episode in the next couple of weeks.
UPDATE May 29, 2009: The show is on a little summer vacation while Robert gathers interview material in Los Angeles and Paris. Look for Episode 4 at the end of June. In the meantime, check out the recent ALWW B-side, a mini-episode of sorts.

I’m loving your podcast, there hasn’t been a show were I stopped midway I had to listen to it all the way through. I really loved the topic of this podcast. The way you blend people’s voices and music together makes it really easy to listen to.

I love this podcast, but the long section with the filtered voice was unnecessary and hard to understand. It was really painful on my ears and I found myself shouting at the computer occasionally. Were you trying to hide his identity or something? Maybe I missed that part. In any case, why??
Posted by Mike January 3, 2010 at 4:01 PM
@Mike: I had to mask his identity because he was speaking to me without the permission of his employers (who make the botched games the interview is about). Had I used his natural voice, he may have gotten fired. Many people have made the same comment about the sound. I have a better system for masking voices now, and I might release this with updated sound.

I just saw the guy from Carnegie Mellon on PBS. Apparently he’s the guy who also made Captcha. He has a surprisingly recognizable voice.

The game designer/hippy needs to put family before ideals. Common sense does not seem to be his strong point.

This made me want to buy games by Jason Rohrer. That man need some moolah! Also checked out the I Come To Shanghai stuff, that’s definitely going on my indie playlist
